The Rotary Foundation
Service Projects That Change Lives
Eradication of Polio
The Rotary Foundation transforms Rotarian donations into service projects that change lives both close to home and around the world.
The Rotary Foundation, the funding arm of Rotary International, enables Rotarians to advance world understanding, goodwill, and peace through the improvement of health, the support of education, and the alleviation of poverty. Since it was founded more than 100 years ago, the Foundation has spent more than $4 billion worldwide on life-changing, sustainable projects.
The eradication of polio is one of Rotary’s longest standing and most significant efforts. Along with partners, Rotary has helped immunize more than 2.5 billion children against polio in 122 countries. Polio cases have been reduced by 99.9 percent worldwide and Rotary will not stop until the disease is ended for good.

Funding to Eradicate Polio
How We're Helping
Rotarians also help to eradicate polio through their support of the worldwide Polio fund. Kalamalka Rotarians have contributed over $ 18,000 USD to Polio Plus since 2014.
The Annual Fund of the Foundation has received $ 77,286 USD (CA $ 108,723) from Kalamalka Rotarians since 2015. These funds are the primary source of funding for all Foundation activities.
Some of the Foundation funds are provided at the District and Global levels to support the work that Rotary clubs do in the six areas of focus. The District funds are matched to those contributed at the club level, up to USD $10,000.
The District Foundation Fund has supported the following Kalamalka Rotary projects through District grants:
- O’Keefe Ranch – interactive children’s play area, Greenhow Museum
- Community Dental Access Centre, Vernon, BC – X-Ray sensors and sterilization unit
- Ambo Mesk, Ethiopia – Water and sanitation facilities and furnishings for community school.
- Jema Footbridge in Ethiopia – allows children and villagers to safely reach school and nearby community facilities during rainy season
- Devi Jal Kumari School, Aprik, Gorkha Province, Nepal
- Turning Points Collaborative – Haven Home
