Support Our Peace Efforts and End Polio Forever
Dedicated to Building International Relationships
Incoming Rotary International President Shekhar Mehta, a member of the Rotary Club of Calcutta-Mahanagar, West Bengal, India, revealed the 2021-22 presidential theme, Serve to Change Lives.
He has urged members to become more involved in service projects, saying that caring for and serving others is the best way to live because it changes not only other people’s lives, but also our own.
Mehta participated in initiatives that brought artificial limbs to children, clean water and sanitation to homes, and better health care facilities to communities.
“Rotary kindled the spark within me to look beyond myself and embrace humanity,” he said:
“Service became a way of life for me and I, like many others, adopted the guiding philosophy that ‘Service is the rent I pay for the space I occupy on this earth, and I want to be a good tenant of this earth.”
Rotary continues to be dedicated to six areas of focus to build international relationships, improve lives, and create a better world to support our peace efforts and end polio forever:
- Peace building and conflict prevention
- Disease prevention and treatment
- Water, sanitation, and hygiene
- Maternal and child health
- Basic education and literacy
- Community economic development
Each year, Kalamalka Rotary contributes to international communities and families with some of the proceeds of the annual Kalamalka Rotary Dream Auction.
The club’s International Donation Committee reviews applications received by December 31 of that calendar year and selects worthy community based projects to support in February to March of the following year.
We generally partner with organizations that have both local and international ties and are capable of providing sound financial and organizational oversight for the duration of the project.
The areas of focus for these projects are Rotary International’s six areas of focus as outlined above.
We help to fund capital costs for community projects which have a broad impact and a defined start and finish.
